ACT III: A small island in the Aegean

Richard Romanus

A successful Hollywood couple decides that if life is structured like a movie, then why shouldn’t the last act be spent indulging themselves in the hope of realizing any leftover dreams? So the couple sells their house, packs up all of their belongings, and together with their large black standard poodle, Guido, and twenty-two boxes starts their last act by deciding to go merrily on their way to no place in particular until they find paradise.

PREFACE

There are two times in your life when the world is your oyster. The first is the day you decide your formal education is over and you take responsibility for yourself. The second is when you retire. In between, opportunities present themselves which you gladly take advantage of, but which make your world increasingly smaller and you more concentrated on acquiring and protecting what you’ve acquired. This book is what my life was like as a result of that second oyster moment. In retirement, besides the challenge of making any leftover dream come true, I soon discovered you unwittingly take on the most important job of your life: discovering who you really are, stripped from how you are defined by society.
