He came from a prosperous family and studied in Athens, at Plato\u2019s Academy. He travelled extensively in Greece, visited Alexandria in Egypt and regions of Asia Minor, and spent time in Rome, where he became friendly with illustrious Roman senators. Returning to Chaeronia he married, started a family, and assumed local public office in several capacities. He also became a priest of Apollo at the Oracle of Delphi. He was a prolific author and, in his time, was already acknowledged as a historian, philosopher, and biographer. His most important works are <em>Parallel Lives<\/em> and <em>Moralia<\/em>.
