Kostula Mitropulu nasce al Pireo nel 1933. Studia Giurisprudenza all’Università di Atene, per poi dedicarsi alla scrittura di romanzi, racconti e opere teatrali. Dopo il colpo di stato del 1967, sceglie la via dell’esilio e si trasferisce a Parigi. Autrice prolifica, tradotta in molte lingue, Mitropulu riceve nel 1984 il «Premio Statale di Letteratura» della Repubblica di Grecia, nella sezione racconti. Muore ad Atene nel 2004.
